Vernix
Share
Vernix is a thick, protective layer covering your newborn baby's skin, and is developed whilst in the womb.
It is important in preventing chapping or wrinkling of the skin. It also protects them from infections in the womb.
Vernix can also provide lubrication through the birth, alleviating some of the fricton as your baby passes through the birth canal.
Did you know vernix contains antioxidants, as well as anti-infection and anti-inflammatory properties. This is the reason we encourage you to delay the first bath.
